> How voice works in Pilotie: hold to talk, tap to lock, the limits, which speech services write it out, and what is kept.

## Record

Hold the microphone to talk and let go to send. Tap it to lock it open when your hands are busy, and tap Send when you are done. Cancel throws the recording away. The browser asks for permission to use the microphone once.

## Limits

| What | Limit |
| --- | --- |
| Length of one message | 2 minutes 10 seconds |
| Size of one message | 6 MB |
| Messages a day for a workspace | 150 |

A long job is several messages.

## Written out

The recording goes to a speech service to be written out. By default that is Groq (Whisper large-v3-turbo). If it fails, OpenAI (gpt-4o-mini-transcribe) takes over. The language is detected on its own unless the app already knows yours. The names in your workspace, such as clients and projects, go along as a spelling hint.

## What you see

Your message appears at once, marked Voice, with "Transcribing..." until the text is ready. Then the helper answers it like any typed message. If it failed, the message says so and you can try again or type.

## What is kept

The app is set to keep only the text. The audio is not kept after it was read.

> Speech writing needs provider keys on your workspace. Without a key the app writes a clearly labelled stand-in text, so you can always see what is real. Live dictation, on-device writing-out and a spoken answer are planned, with no date.
